Top 10 Best Sellers of 2019

If there’s one thing we love about our Harney customers (and we love a LOT of things about you!), it’s how much you love our teas! We have the most loyal customers who all have their faves. #10:  Chocolate Chai Supreme

There’s a quote by artist John Tullius, “Nine out of ten people like chocolate; the tenth person always lies.” So it’s no surprise that a chocolate tea ended up on this list. 

Our chocolate chai is like dessert in a cup, and the more you choose to add to it—like milk or cream or whipped cream—the more decadent and wonderful it gets. Those chai spices plus wait, what was that other ingredient? Oh yeah. Chocolate. Try it, person #10, and then tell us again how you don’t like chocolate.

#9:  Dragon Pearl Jasmine

If you combined the two novels  Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and  Girl with a Pearl Earring, well, you’d have a pretty weird book. But when you combine the jasmine floral essence with dainty little hand-rolled tea pearls of our Dragon Pearl Jasmine tea you get a special, delicate beverage that’s not weird at all.

#8:  Japanese Sencha

Coming in at #8 on our most popular teas of 2019 is Japanese Sencha. This lovely green tea comes from the Shizuoka province that has found fans across the globe. Our founder, John Harney, started his day with Japanese Sencha.

We understand that this tea is also popular in many Tokyo homes… and who knows, maybe some of its cat cafés. Yes folks, in Tokyo you can easily find cat cafés to enjoy a cup of tea in while you pet (but don’t pick them up!) the café’s furry inhabitants. It’s one way Tokyo residents, who often live in quite cramped quarters without room for pets, can enjoy their tea and kitteas, too! Purrfect!

#7:  Indigo Punch

If blue is your favorite color, and delicious is your favorite flavor, then Indigo Punch is your go-to tea. Packed full of bright fruit flavors and a touch of honey, our customers rave about this tea’s hue and taste. Definitely a tea you’ll want to have more than once in a blue moon.

#6:  Irish Breakfast

In honor of one of Ireland’s most famous bands, U2, we’d like to say that we take great Pride (In the Name of Love, of course) in our Irish Breakfast tea. If you Still Haven’t Found What You’re Looking For first thing in the morning, this tea could be it. A wee more sophisticated than other Irish breakfast teas, it will get you started on a Beautiful Day. It’s so popular, your friends will probably enjoy it With or Without You. Whether you already started 2020 having this tea on New Year’s Day or not, we think just one sip and you’ll have a strong Desire for it all year long.

#5:  Victorian London Fog

If you like Earl Grey a latté, then our fifth most popular tea, Victorian London Fog, is a winner for you, too. The citrus of bergamot in a traditional Earl Grey has been given a royal boost of lavender and vanilla in this customer-created blend. Serve with steamed milk and imagine watching a fog roll in over the Thames from your apartments in Buckingham Palace.

#4:  English Breakfast

A traditional English breakfast is not for the faint of heart. Also called a “fry-up,” it typically includes fried eggs, sausages, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, fried bread, white or black pudding (similar to bloodwurst), baked beans and hash browns. 

The tea that accompanies this stout breakfast had better be up to the challenge; our English breakfast tea is. With an ancient pedigree, this 100% Keemun tea known for its aroma, mellow flavor and beautiful color is a wonderful China black tea that is the perfect complement to a hearty fry-up... or your more sensible fruit and yogurt.

#3:  Earl Grey Supreme

So, was it or wasn’t it? Stories abound about whether this tea was named after Charles Grey, an Earl who was also Prime Minister of England. Did he or didn’t he save a Chinese man’s son from drowning, and the tea was named in his honor as thanks? Or did the Grey family have the tea blended for them with bergamot to offset the limey water near their home? Or was some black tea shipped from China next to some bergamots and, much like the marriage of chocolate and peanut butter to form a Reese’s Cup, Earl Grey tea was born?

No one really knows how the tea got its name, but what we do know is our customers love our Earl Grey Supreme, which has all the goodness of the original but uses a higher grade of teas. Once you try it, we think you’ll end up drinking it  early… and often.

#2:  Paris

If Paris is called the City of Lights (and it is), then this tea should be called the Tea of Lights, because it will light up your senses! Like the city, this tea has it all: a classic black and oolong tea accompanied by vanilla, caramel, bergamot and black currant. Put it in a designer gown, launch it on the runway and it will steal the show!

And now, drumroll please…

#1:  Hot Cinnamon Spice

The only thing that was hotter than sales of our Hot Cinnamon Spice tea in 2019 was the episode from “Game of Thrones” final season (SPOILER ALERT) where Daenerys’ dragon set fire to King’s Landing. Really, that was the only thing that was hotter.

 To say customers love Harney’s signature Hot Cinnamon Spice tea would be an understatement of epic proportions. There’s just something about this blend of cinnamon and spices that people can’t live without. To throwback to an earlier reference: we’re pretty sure that nine out of ten people would say they love HCS, and that the tenth is probably lying.
