Our trip to China was up to Gulou in Hunan Province. It turns out that we were the first western tea buyers to visit this hidden valley, about four hours south of Changsha. As we rounded our way up the river valley, the air got fresher, and we got more excited. We stopped at the factory owned by Mrs. Xiao. She has run it for the last 13 years and built a beautiful garden that makes great tea. We were impressed with the body and sweetness of this tea. These traits come from the umami found in the young tea leaves. The tea is rolled and dried in ovens to preserve its sweetness.

Rich, mellow, full-bodied, just faintly floral but doesn't interfere with the essential "tea-ness" of the tea. From the first sip, my reaction was, "This is my new favorite." My life has been enriched by the fact that Mike visited Gulou in 2019.
This tea is the A.M. answer to Namring 1st flush dargeeling if you're craving it before tea time. Whereas Namring is an afternoon tea, light and floral, this has more body and can take a tot of milk(and your won't feel guilty for spoiling the colour, Namring looks so pretty in a delicate China cup on its own.) So very excited that I made this purchase and look forward to buying more!
Wonderful! Exquisite floral aroma, the right amount of sweetness, and just a touch of briskness to make for a well balanced cup. I'm so glad I decided to try this tea!
