Green teas have long been hogging the health-benefits-of-tea spotlight, and for good reason. Green tea catechins – a substance that protects our cells from damage by free radicals – consist of four antioxidant compounds. That, in turn, means the antioxidant levels in green tea have been reported to be 100 times more effective than vitamin C and 24 times better than vitamin E in protecting our immune systems. Seems like a pretty convincing reason to drink more green tea!

But if plain ol’ green tea just sounds meh to you – and we totally understand, to each their own – Harney & Sons carries a wide variety of green teas to appeal to all taste buds. So before you turn your nose up at green teas forever, take a look at some of these green teas with a twist!

Organic Gunpowder. Gunpowder tea is one of the most popular and unique of the “twisted” greens. In fact, Chinese gunpowder tea was one of the first teas my grandfather and our founder, John Harney, ever carried. Its highly recognizable sharp, charred flavor sets it apart in the world of green teas. You can read more about it on our Gunpowder Tea blog.

Lemony Gunpowder. We added a twist to the twist! Lemon brightens up our gunpowder tea for a true tongue tantalizer!

Organic Bancha. This Chinese green tea, finished with the Japanese method of steam-fixing, creates an elegantly light and grassy tea with a lovely light yellow color.

Genmaicha. This beguiling Japanese green tea adds brown rice kernels to bancha leaves as they are being dried, allowing the kernels to get crispy and even burst open. This creates a tea with a unique appearance and lovely roasted flavor that might even remind you of popcorn.

Duck Rice Genmaicha. We love this tea, and if you have ducks, they might love it too! The rice in this tea is sourced from Japanese fields, and the ducks in those fields cannot get enough of that rice…hence the name. It’s a light tea with toasted rice and barley flavor.

Roasted Buckwheat Matcha. Love warm, nutty flavors? Then this is your green tea. The buckwheat adds a sweetness to the matcha that allows it to mellow out, making it easier to enjoy for those individuals who do not favor the stronger, traditional matcha flavor.

Hojicha. What doesn’t look or taste like a green tea but is a green tea? Hojicha! Ground from roasted green tea twigs from gardens in Uji, this Japanese specialty looks like coffee, tastes a bit like coffee (but sweeter), but is 100% green tea. How twisted is that?

Organic Bangkok. Feeling tropical? Check out this Thailand-inspired organic green tea with coconut, ginger, and vanilla flavors. We also package this as Green Tea With Coconut, Ginger, and Vanilla in our HRP line.

Garden Party. The winner of our 2021 customer blending contest, Garden Party will transport you to a summer party in a lush English garden. It features lively fruit flavors along with rhubarb for a truly unique twist.

Tausug Blend. Flavored with coconut and pineapple, this green tea helps support the Tausug people and the Royal Sultanate of Sulu in the Philippines through the charitable work of Sultan Kiram to protect seniors, provide educational support for less fortunate children, and provide relief and medical aid for impoverished families.

Royal Pomegranate. Part of our Met Collection, this green tea features antioxidant-rich pomegranate, giving this sweet and fruity blend even more healthy superpowers.

Very Berry Matcha. Because we know traditional Japanese matcha is not everyone’s cup of tea, we created some wonderful flavored alternatives. This blend is all about goji berries along with strawberry and raspberry flavor.

White Peach Matcha. As simple and fruity as it gets, this green tea blend of matcha and bancha is almost dripping with juicy peach flavors. Try it in our iced tea version!

Earl Grey Matcha. We believe there’s nothing an Earl Grey blend can’t do to improve your day, and this matcha version bears that out. The traditional bergamot oil flavor comes shining through in this green tea version of the classic.

Green Hot Cinnamon Spice. If what we believe about Earl Grey tea is true (and it is!), then that goes double for our best-selling Hot Cinnamon Spice tea. Even with a green tea base instead of black tea, this is a winning twist you’re sure to love.
